How provisioning works
The end-to-end flow, from a blank disk to an enrolled device.
The flow
StageReady takes a Windows laptop from bare metal to fully provisioned in a single boot:
Dashboard
A technician picks the client and profile, and gets a 6-digit code.
USB / WinPE
The device boots the stick, takes the code, and asks the platform what to do.
Windows install
Windows 11 goes down from bare metal, with the right OEM driver pack.
Client tenant
The device registers into Autopilot and lands ready to hand over.

Generate a code
In the dashboard, pick the client and a setup profile. You get a 6-digit code that works once and expires in minutes.

Boot the USB and enter it
Boot the device from the StageReady stick and type the code. The device confirms which client it's provisioning for.

Windows installs
StageReady installs Windows 11 from a blank disk.

Enroll and configure
The device registers into the client's Windows Autopilot, and region, language, keyboard and timezone are applied.

Walk away
Every step reports to your dashboard live and is recorded permanently.
Bare metal or existing Windows
StageReady is true bare-metal: it installs the operating system itself. Which steps run is decided by how you start the job, not by what's already on the disk.
- Boot from the StageReady USB and the install step runs: the target disk is wiped and reimaged, even if it had a working Windows and data on it. There is no prompt, so back up anything you need first.
- Run
Provision.cmdfrom inside an existing Windows — a machine straight from the manufacturer, or one being repurposed in place — and the job never boots WinPE, so the install step is skipped, along with the rest of the WinPE phase including BIOS configuration. Everything from the installed OS onward runs as normal.
Anything skipped is shown as skipped on the job, with the reason.
What's on the USB
Nothing sensitive. The stick is a messenger: it knows how to phone home to StageReady and nothing else. No passwords, no client names, no logic.
Why a lost stick is a non-event
Whoever finds it gets a boot prompt asking for a code they don't have. There is nothing on the stick to extract. See the security model for the full picture.
Proof of work
Because every code, step, and device is logged permanently, you can show any client exactly what was done, when, and by whom.
